Amie Dicke's Apartment

No tenía ni idea de quién era Amie Dicke hasta que me he encontrado con el reportaje de su casa en Freunde von Freunden (y que siempre tenga que comprobar cómo se escribe el dichoso nombrecito...). La verdad es que leyendo la entrevista que le hacen me ha parecido una artista con la cabeza bastante sobre los hombros y os quiero hablar de ella hoy porque me ha encantado descubrir las grandes diferencia entre su casa y su estudio, el orden de una frente al caos del otro. Una contradicción que se adivina también en su trabajo y en sus palabras. Ya pensaba yo que era la única contradictoria sobre la faz de la tierra. Menudo alivio...

I didn't know Amie Dicke until I found this interview in Freunde von Freunden. She looks like a very realistic artist to me and I loved to see the big differences between her apartment and her studio, tidy versus chaotic. A contradiction that you can also guess on her work and personality. I thought I was the only contradictory person on earth. Oh, what a relief...

David Bromley's studio

Hace bien poquito os mostraba algunos estudios de artistas que ocupaban una de mis carpetas de inspiración en Pinterest. Qué increíble poder tener un espacio propio donde crear e inspirarte! Éste que he descubierto creo que se merece un post para él solito. Este espacio además de hacer sus labores como estudio de trabajo de David Bromley también hacía de galería y de espacio (increíblemente original) para reuniones y eventos. Y digo hacía porque parece ser que el Señor Bromley cogió a su familia, sus pinceles y obras de arte y se mudó a otro lugar.

Hala, a recrearse todo el mundo!

A while ago I showed you a few artist's studios from one of my Pinterest boards. How amazing is to have an space to create and be inspired! This space was David Bromley's studio and has served as gallery and space for meetings and gatherings. It seems like Mr. Bromley took his family, brushes and art and moved to a different place.

Artists and their Studios

Hace dos años, en Londres, asistí a la celebración del Hackney Wicked Festival. Básicamente el festival consiste en que toda la gran comunidad de artistas que allí vive y trabaja (Noreste de Londres) abre sus estudios para que todo el mundo pueda descubrirles, visitar sus espacios, charlar con ellos sobre su trabajo e incluso comprar alguna de sus obras. Son los "open studios", algo bastante habitual allí, y con los que descubrí mi parte más cotilla por ver los lugares en los que la gente crea y se inspira.

Siento, sobre todo, cierta inclinación hacia los estudios de pintores, supongo que por todo ese caos espacial que me resulta totalmente inspirador. Aquí parte de mi board en Pinterest donde recopilo este tipo de espacios.

Two years ago, in London, I went to the Hackney Wicked Festival. Hackney Wick (North East of London) is an area with a big creative community. During these days, the artists open their studios to show people where they create and work. The "open studios"are such interesting days when you can discover new artists, chat with them about their work and meet new people.

I'm specially drawn to painters studios, I guess because of all that inspirational chaos.

Ariele Alasko

Descubrí a Ariele Alasko hace un tiempo a través de las series que The Makers Project hizo sobre varios artistas y artesanos. Y en este nuevo número de la revista Kinfolk (número 7) he tenido el placer de toparme de nuevo con ella.

Y digo que he tenido el placer porque una de las cosas que más me gusta leer en Kinfolk son las entrevistas. Son entrevistas cercanas, íntimas y en las que llegas a conocer un poquito más a la persona  entrevistada quedándote con las ganas incluso de conocerla.

Eso me pasó a mí con Ariele que nos habla con sinceridad de cómo descubrió su pasión por trabajar y transformar la madera y de lo que significa para ella hacer muebles con sus manos que luego pasarán a formar parte de la vida de otros. Si aún no la habéis leído os la recomiendo!!

I discovered Ariele Alasko some time back through The Makers Project series made of some artisans and artists around the world. And in this new Kinfolk issue (number 7) I had the pleasure of coming across her again.

And I say "I had the pleasure" because one of the things I like most from Kinfolk are the interviews. They're personal, intimate and you get to know the person a bit more and in the end you even want to meet her/him in person.

That's what happened to me with Ariele who talks honestly about how she discovered her passion for working with wood and what means for her to make furniture with her hands that one day will become part of other's life. If you haven't read it yet I recommend it!!
